Members of the Richmond Industrial Workers of the World feel that in order to build a strong and self organized working class movement, labor should be present in every aspect of the working class. Sometimes this means organizing in the workplace, but other times it means meeting people where they need it most, directly in their community. Below are some of the organizations we are directly involved with:

Residents of Public Housing in Richmond Against Mass Eviction (RePHRAME)

RePHRAME is an alliance of public housing residents, advocates, and allies committed to housing justice for all in Richmond. The Richmond Industrial Workers of the World are active partners in helping develop strategies for out reach to both public housing and greater Richmond residents, relating issues of the working class with housing justice.

Greater Richmond Transit Riders Union

The Richmond Transit Riders Union (RTRU) recognizes the inherent inequality of the class system in which we live. This system has privileged a select few with its power and its resources at the expense of the masses, who are kept in a perpetual state of poverty.

The Richmond Transit Riders Union is formed on the principle of self-determination, and on a direct-democratic model. It is lead by the transit-dependent community of the Greater Richmond region, who understand that public transportation is a basic civil right.

The Richmond Transit Riders Union is dedicated to fostering the popular struggle for effective public transportation for all, which promotes equality of mobility and opportunity.

SEED Church Hill was formed to ensure that residents who are lower income and working poor have a continued and significant presence during the East End Transformation and relative development.  SEED-CH is organizing residents around specific initiatives such as community gardening, tenants union, popular education, co-operative business & housing which champion mutual-aid and offer alternative solutions to government aid and intervention.
